5 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Resigning
Turning in your resignation isn’t always easy, even if you hate your job or boss and can’t wait to start that new job. Even if you are about to be fired, it can be difficult to resign tactfully. If you are considering resigning from a job, here are some important points to think through before you turn in your resignation.
But first of all, be sure that you really do want to quit. So, here are 5 questions you might want to ask yourself before resigning:
- What EXACTLY are my reasons for wanting to quit?
When you do something, it’s important to know the “Why” of it. Make sure you’re not making this decision just based on your emotions. Think about it objectively and logically. When you think back to when you first thought of quitting, what was the situation you were in? Do your reasons still seem valid after the emotions subside?
- Is my issue with work solvable?
This goes back to your reasons for quitting. If you think that the problem could possibly be temporary or could still be fixed, think about it a little longer. You don’t want to do anything you might regret in the future.
- What would my immediate plan be if I quit?
Do you plan on getting a new job right away? If you do, do you have any prospects? Have you sent out applications? Before you even quit your job you have to have at least a general direction of where you’re going after.
- Is my current job holding me back from anything?
Is your job holding you back from being happy? Is it holding you back financially? Is it holding you back from what you want to do? If it is then yes, it may be time for you to let go of that job. If, on the other hand, you can still see your job as a necessary stepping stone for you to get somewhere you want to go, you may want to hold on to it.
- Am I financially prepared to be without a job right now?
Unless you’re quitting your job so you can go to another one, you’re not gonna have income for a little bit. Think about your lifestyle. Can you manage living a few months without regular income? Do you have enough savings that can last you at least 6 months?
Quitting your job is a life-altering choice. Before you make that decision, take your time to pause and think about it first. Of course you wouldn’t wanna regret your decision in the end, right?
